Hi all,
I am trying to install a alfa AWUS036NHVhttp://www.alfa.com.tw/products_show.php?pc=34&ps=201 on ubuntu but im running into some errors. And i think its driver issues.
the only thing is i know nothing about how drivers work on unix and am trying to learn at the same time of fixing this issue.
There was also a post that was for the 8188eu driver but not the 8188eus http://linuxforums.org.uk/index.php?topic=11261.msg95851#msg95851
So let me give some details.
the chipset is RTL8188EUS and i think the driver that is installed is RTL8188EU
I am runing 3.13.0 generic on vmworkstation.
I can see networks but not there signal strength
And i get the fallowing results from these commands
iwconfig

Interface Chipset Driver
Thanks for any help
0bda:8179 should be covered by the r8188eu driver.
What’s the output from:
sudo lshw -C network
and
sudo iwlist scanning
Is there a list of these somewhere? Across the common drivers as well? Or is it just a case of Googling those ID numbers?
sudo iwlist scanning
eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning.

Try this … with a cabled connection to your router, open a terminal and run these commands in sequence:-
sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-generic dkms
then
mkdir ~/8188EU
then
cd ~/8188EU
then
wget https://github.com/lwfinger/rtl8188eu/archive/master.zip
then
unzip master.zip
then
cd ~/8188EU/rtl8188eu-master
then
make
then
sudo make install
then
sudo modprobe -r r8188eu
then
sudo modprobe 8188eu
Did wireless spring to life ? … if so, we may need to blacklist the r8188eu driver.
Sad to say nothing changed. still can see wifi but cant see there stangths and cant been picked up by airmon as well
So im guessing it has to be the other driver
What’s the output from:
lsmod
?
What other driver ?
[EDIT]
Try this:
sudo modprobe -r 8188eu
then
sudo modprobe -r r8188eu
then
sudo modprobe 8188eu rtw_power_mgnt=0 rtw_enusbss=0
how is wireless now.
any errors from those, post them here.
Ok so there are two drivers the eu and eus my chipset is eus
you wanted the lsmod

I am still vary limited as i was at the start. This alfa is supposed to be able to be put into monitoring mode and other things. If you look at the script alfa has in the “linux” driver download it ascks if you have the eu or the eus and there script is not working for kali or for ubuntu. have not tried it on fedora yet.
Did you try what I said in my last posting ?
yep still at the same point.
