It would seem that either Microsoft have become theoretical physics company (and the modern day equivalent of Einstein) … or, they’ve done the equivalent of claiming to have found bigfoot.
Just wondering whether this really is a major breakthrough, or whether they’re feeling a little left out with the news tending to focus almost exclusively on AI stuff.
I agree. It reads to me like very optimistic hype.
They are claiming to have developed a “pathway” to a million qubits on a chip despite only having created only eight so far. Quantum states are super-dependent on maintaining quantum coherence which is destroyed if heat can’t be removed effectively. And I wonder how scaling from 8 to 1M will fare on that.
