I am trying to install Ubuntu onto a notebook via a USB but the ‘Input/output error during read on /dev/sda’ message came up. I quit and clicked on a custom install so i could create a partition. I create a new partition table but the message ‘No root file system is defined’ comes up. What should i do to fix this?
Is this a dual boot setup, or are you trying to wipe the drive and install Ubuntu as the only OS ?
I was wanting to wipe the whole thing for Linux
Are you sure there’s no problems with the hard drive ?
Boot to the LiveUSB then try using GParted to delete all the partitions and create a new (msdos) partition table.
