Problems with 3G Dongle in Mint 10 (Resolved)

Hi, I seem to be having the same problem in Mint 10 I had in Ubuntu 11 the system thinks my modem is a USB hard drive.

The modem is listed Bus 002 Device 002: ID 05c6:1000 Qualcomm, Inc. Mass Storage Device

I have installed the most up-to-date USB Modeswitch that I can find and this has not solved the problem.

The fix you provided last time (for the Qualcomm, Inc model Globesurfer i CON 7.2S) is also not working as when I try using it the fix is not installed.

I’ve added it to a custom configPack.tar .gz, as used in the newer version of usb-modeswitch-data … So download the custom version:
Code: [Select]
cd ~
wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11876059/configPack.tar.gz

Now rename your old configPack.tar.gz to backup-configPack.tar.gz:
Code: [Select]
sudo mv -v /usr/share/usb_modeswitch/configPack.tar.gz /usr/share/usb_modeswitch/backup-configPack.tar.gz

Now copy the new configPack.tar .gz to /usr/share/usb_modeswitch:
Code: [Select]
sudo cp -v ~/configPack.tar.gz /usr/share/usb_modeswitch/configPack.tar.gz

Now you may have to reboot, or you may only have to unplug the dongle, wait a few seconds, then replug it… I’m not sure.<<

This is what happens if I try this fix -

What do you think.

If you open /usr/share/usb_modeswitch in nautilus:

nautilus /usr/share/usb_modeswitch

are there a bunch of files in there with names like
0421:060c
etc.
??

Hi,

nautilus /usr/share/usb_modeswitch

I get an error can not find…

How did you install usb-modeswitch ?

If through Synaptic… fire up synaptic, search for usb-modeswitch-data

First check it is installed.

then right click it, and select Properties, then the Installed Files (tab), and post the list of installed files.

It is shown as installed.

OK, find the configPack.tar.gz you downloaded, and unpack the 05c6:1000:sVe=GT file from it, and put that file in the /etc/usb_modeswitch.d directory.

If you need instructions, just ask

[EDIT]

Instructions… just in case

cd ~

wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11876059/configPack.tar.gz

sudo tar -xvzf configPack.tar.gz --directory /etc/usb_modeswitch.d 05c6:1000:sVe=GT

Unplug the dongle, wait a few seconds, then replug it.

(may require a logoff/logon, or reboot, but I doubt it)

For future readers… this fix is for the Qualcomm Inc, model Globesurfer i CON 7.2S 3G USB dongle.

Original topic (and fix for Ubuntu 11.04) can be seen here:
http://linuxforums.org.uk/ubuntu/problem-internet-connection-with-3g-dongel-runing-11-4-classic/

Working fine now, like to have 3G available on my computers if the cable broad band fails. It was off Sat - Sun for 15 hours.

Thanks yet again.
