I’ve just reinstalled Ubuntu and it no longer detects USB sticks or CDs…
Any ideas folks?

Unplug the USB stick. wait 5 seconds, replug the USB stick, then post the output from:

No.
What makes you think the USB drive isn’t being recognised ? … the system seems to be “seeing” it.
If you open your file manager, is it available in the left hand column ?
It is today, Mark, but I swear it wasn’t yesterday. I tried boot after hard reboot. Nothing.
Even more oddly, the CD/DVD drive recognised nothing yesterday, but today it sees SOME blank discs, but not others, even though they’re from the same batch. I know that some discs are just coasters (although personally I’ve never had that happen before), but given the reinstall PLUS the USB problem, this is a hell of a coincidence…
