OK, I think I have a handle on what went wrong now … it wasn’t an issue with the Jupiter install, it was a stuck mscorefonts install.

Or have you already completed “Stage 6”, and installed the LibreOffice packages ?
Also if you require more than just the Calc and Writer packages … let me know.
That said … there’s little difference between the LibreOffice and OpenOffice user interface, but LibreOffice is being more actively developed and has better compatibility with Microsoft Office … If I were you I’d stick with LibreOffice.
LibreOffice is a fairly recent fork of OpenOffice, so they haven’t diverged too much yet … In my (and most other peoples) opinion LibreOffice is the better of the two, and is still moving forward at a fair pace, whereas OpenOffice is dying (thanks to Oracles ineptitude, and attitude towards the developers … who all left to start LibreOffice).

I am having problems with the wifi settings and since installing the peppermint three program my little orange light no longer comes on and offers me the option of wifi can you help please.

The wifi (orange) light only comes on (flickers) when data is being exchanged with your router … so until you set up a wireless connection it won’t light up.
Can I suggest you first shut down the AA1, then whilst turned off remove the battery AND the power lead … now press the on/off button to discharge any remaining charge in the motherboard … now reconnect the battery and power lead and boot Peppermint.
At NO time mess with the wireless switch on the front of the AA1.
When booted, right-click the NetworkManager icon by the clock (may look like 2 cables Plugged together) … is there an option to “Enable Wireless” … and is it ticked ?

If you left-click the same NetworkManager icon is your routers SSID (network name) listed ?

I have now got all my connections back as normal so that is fantastic.
just 1 other question for you if that’s ok.
I have now completed the install of peppermint three and it is great far better than the old syatem I was running. The only bit i can’t get to do is the power saving option that will give the bolt looking icon on the bottom bar to increase the battery life etc any ideas? and do I need any other software to get word/excel etc and also any anti virus software not sure if and what I need I currently have Avast on my home computer.
Word and Excel are Microsoft applications so won’t run on Linux … but if you followed the tutorial, you should have LibreOffice “Writer” and “Calc” installed … they can read/write Word/Excel documents.
LibreOffice Writer and Calc are more up to date versions of the OpenOffice Writer and Calc that came with Linpus Lite … but with better Microsoft Office compatibility
This is Linux, not Windows … no need for antivirus/antimalware software 
What problem did you have with the Jupiter power manager instructions ?
It flagged up a message to say something along the lines of can’t install/read the E: but I did not have any usb or any other devices connected.
OK, open a terminal (Ctrl+Alt+T) and run these 3 commands:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/jupiter
then
sudo apt-get update
then
sudo apt-get install jupiter
Any errors, copy and paste them back here.
If no errors … reboot, and you should see the lightning icon by the system clock.
