Can anyone advise on the best software for website creation. I am a complete noob to website creation. I have a new 1&1 account and I am staring at the page wondering what to do next. My website does not have to come on live for 3 months. Probably should employ a pro’ but don’t have much money.
Web site needs to be simple with picture of items nothing fancy required.
Need something simple for a simple person
My wife not me!
I will be installing Peppermint three on a Toshiba Equium laptop with 2gb ram 80gb hard drive (yeh, cutting edge stuff!)
Thanks in advance.
You may want to check this topic:

Then check if your 1&1 account supports hosting Wordpress websites
Thanks for the link Mark.
Allegedly it supports Wordpress via htp and ssh.
Well then, for your own sake … use Wordpress … most of the work is done for you by whatever theme you choose … the rest is just a bit of editing in an easy to use interface in your browser
I have no doubt others will tell you something similar
How do I get Wordpress? I can’t find it in Linux software database.
Ok found it. ;D
downloading tar now.
Wordpress runs on the web host (not your local PC)… so you’ll need to find out from 1&1 how to set it up on their host.
They probably have a tutorial though … or may set it up for you … best ask them, or search their website.
Manual instructions for installing Wordpress on 1&1 here:
http://faq.oneandone.co.uk/scripting/php/23.html
and see here too:
http://antbag.com/how-to-install-wordpress-with-1-and-1-hosting/
But check to see if 1&1 have a “one click” wordpess installation routine … 123-reg do, so you never know
Or phone them and ask.
Thanks. You replied quicker than 1 & 1 support team!
Heh … ask em if they need me to provide support for them … for a fee of course
I did my site with wordpress at Mark’s recomendation, it’s a doddle and I do not understand web sites
