Do any of you watch itv player? I have had some weirdness with it lately- now I am sure that this is nothing to do with Linux or Firefox as I have read peoples’ complaints about this online and I don’t have problems with other i players or you tube.
What happens every so often is that it will stall- the video will freeze and the audio will carry on and when I do control alt delete the programme won’t end and I have to turn my netbook off and re start my system. The last time this happened (a few days ago)- after the netbook came back on (after turning it off )my tabs I had had open came on ( just email pages and the itv player) and a weird web page tab also loaded. I clicked it off.
I am wondering if it was something to do with those stupid interactive ads itv player has, even tho it wasn’t on ads at the time.
A computer guy at the college I was working at until a few weeks ago used to have Linux himself ( and went back to Microsoft) and told me Flash doesn’t work very well on Linux! I don’t think that’s true or we’d not be able to run all sorts of videos!
Itv player is the only thing that causes my netbook to crash.
ITV have a website?
My first step would be to try a different browser. If the problem persists it’s probably on the website side. Given the quality of their output I wouldn’t be at all surprised if their site turned out to be a bit crap too.
I’ve been using Linux for 11 years now and flash has, for the most part, worked fine all that time.
What browser do you use? I am on Firefox and never find it bad- it’s itv player for sure. Surprised you have never heard of it- all the 5 UK tv stations are online.
I suspect I might have been being sarcastic about ITV. I’m not a fan. The only thing they’ve done in the last 15 years I’ve enjoyed was Whitechapel.
I tend to use Opera a lot, mainly because of the Speed Dial feature and because 18 months or so ago I was having a lot of problems with Firefox on Slackware. Opera was a great deal more stable and reliable. It sort of grew on me.
I don’t really use the online players for any of our domestic channels.
OK, joined and watched the british superbikes as a test … didn’t stall on me ???
How often does this happen ?
Have you tried disabling any Firefox plugins you may have ?

Hi Mark- it does it now and again- seems to do it in the space of a week for a few times and then doesn’t for awhile. I don’t think any plug ins would affect it. I am not using many.
