What gstreamer plugin to convert mp3 to AAC (mp4)

Hi guys I’m trying to transcode some mp3 files to AAC (mp4) in Clementine in an attempt to transfer music to my daughters Apple purchasing device (AKA iPod), Clementine will mount the iPod in the left hand pane and I can load the music I want to transfer in the right hand pane, but if I highlight the music I want to transfer and select “move to device” I get a checksum error, so I thought if I transcoded the music to AAC (mp4) it might work, however when I try to transcode it fails with the following error

Has anyone any idea what gstreamer plugin I need I’ve tried installing a few but to no avail so far

Any help or advice would be much appreciated

Graeme

I gather ffmux_mp4 is part of the gstreamer-ffmeg package … which is currently unavailable for 14.04

There is a PPA available … but it’s going to change a LOT of packages for non standard ones … and even then may not work.

See here:

(at the end of those instructions also do a full system upgrade)

Be sure to also install ppa-purge if it’s not already installed … so you can undo the changes if it doesn’t work

Sounds a bit scary so I’m just gonna leave it

I’m gonna give her 3 choices

(1) install Windows/iTunes as a dual boot on her desktop

(2) Install Windows/iTunes in a VM

(2) Flog the iPod on Ebay and use the money to buy a proper media player

No prizes for guessing what my recommendation is

Thanks again

Graeme

Sadly, this is the boat I ended up in with my in-laws PC:

This is what I went with, Linux set as default in GRUB with a 10 second timeout

USB over VM can be a bit flaky in my experience, but I haven’t played with it extensively. I know XP Home isn’t fond of running in a VM

Agree with you, but “proper media player” doesn’t exist sadly. The best I’ve found is a 64Gb SD card in my phone, but nothing can compete with the 150Gb iPod, or even the 80/120Gb versions :frowning:
