How can you be sure that wifi is working?

in fedora you may need to install lshw:
yum -y install lshw*

Add the RPMfusion (nonfree) repository:
http://rpmfusion.org/Configuration
then install akmod-wl (as root):
yum install akmod-wl
Then reboot.
I installed akmod-wl and got this:
[root@localhost denise]# yum install akmod-wl
Loaded plugins: langpacks, refresh-packagekit
rpmfusion-free-updates | 3.3 kB 00:00
rpmfusion-nonfree-updates | 3.3 kB 00:00
updates/20/i386/metalink | 4.6 kB 00:00
Package akmod-wl-6.30.223.141-6.fc20.1.i686 already installed and latest version
Nothing to do
Rebooted and wifi network icon still still no network detected.
Please help…
What do you get from:
rfkill list all
Also, you could try to see if this makes it work:
sudo yum install broadcom-wl
(as per https://ask.fedoraproject.org/en/question/38364/broadcom-corporation-bcm43142-sony-vaio-fit-wifi/)
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
Soft blocked: no
Hard blocked: no
I have install broadcom-wl earlier on too.
When yum install broadcom-wl, this displayed:
Loaded plugins: langpacks, refresh-packagekit
Package broadcom-wl-6.30.223.248-1.fc20.noarch already installed and latest version
Nothing to do
Can you post up the result of:
sudo lsmod
I think this might be a blacklist job
Can you also post the output from:
lsusb
and
lscpi -vnn | grep -i net
sudo lsmod

Have you tried building the wl.ko module from here:
No, not yet. How is it be done?
Not 100% sure on Fedora … but try this
yum groupinstall 'Development Tools'
then
yum groupinstall 'Development Libraries'
then post the output from:
uname -a
[root@localhost ~]# uname -a
Linux localhost.localdomain 3.15.5-200.fc20.i686 #1 SMP Mon Jul 14 16:16:42 UTC 2014 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux
Anyone?
Sorry, I don’t know enough about Fedora to provide the required code for compiling a custom kernel :-[
