Sorry boss, you should have started a new thread though as this was marked as “Solved” 
I think when you deleted the folder, something pretty serious in Ubuntu got broken. My guess is that the install of OpenCV was partial, and simply deleting it left some kind of link in place, linking to the now non-existant folder.
Anyway, 14.04 is the future, look forward not backwards!
