kodak printer drivers on acer aspire one impus lite

thats my problem really, have no idea how to back up files or anything basic really, normally just use the net, skype , email and jot the odd letter, for which i use my windows laptop. i have done well to take the plunge and change my whole os on here. i didnt have any luck trying to download the printer, it took me to a terminal and asked for a sudo command. not sure whether my newer hp 3050a all in one would be better suited anyway because its hpeprint?
cheers, john

The HP will no doubt be a LOT easier to set up … but we can carry on with the Kodak if you want ?

Also be aware it will probably be MUCH easier to get the scanner working on the HP … It may even be impossible with the Kodak.

So which printer do you want to use ?

If it’s the Kodak …

How far did you get with this:-

For your Kodak ESP 5250 (AIO) printer .. download ths file: http://sourceforge.net/projects/cupsdriverkodak/files/latest/download

then doube-click it … when gdebi opens, click the “Install” button,

Once that’s installed, go to menu>System Tools>Printing to set up your printer.

??

OK, HP it is then … Is it going to be a wireless or USB connection ?

In either case, you’ll want to install the hplip-gui package, so open a terminal and run this command:

sudo apt-get install hplip-gui

You’ll then find a new menu item called HPLIP Toolbox … see if your printer is automatically discovered by running that.

hi mark, i want to run it wireless.
i ran the toolbox Application and plugged the usb into the printer and netbook, but it cant find it.

hey, how about that, experimented like you and bks told me too and went on to try the cups install section of the file u got me to download, it printed a test page!!! gonna give it one last test…

mark,
thank you so much, the printer works!!! can not believe it!!

Great … you’ll get nowhere unless you experiment, OK occasionally you’ll mess things up, but you’ll then learn a lot by finding fixes … Oh and well done

Well done, hopefully this achievement will make you more confident.

Thanks BKS, can’t believe how much better the netbook is now to use! i will still require basic help though i think.
