Linux.co.uk Event

What is the world coming to … if you can’t even get a cheap beer/TV/record or whatever after a hard days square bashing.

I bought my first Portable TV from the NAFFI at RAF Halton, and IIRC my first Thin Lizzy album.

I’m obviously showing my age now, with talk of “records” and Thin Lizzy (to a lesser extent).

[EDIT]

And “IIRC”

I am being a bit selfish here but my vote would go for Birmingham (live near to).

Have you thought to tie up with any LUG’s operating in the UK?

A quick search turns up Birmingham Linux User Group (LUG). http://birmingham.lug.org.uk/
They meet at Birmingham Science Park Aston (near Aston University) http://bsp-a.com/
and then for a nash they going to the Sack of Potatoes. pubs.com - pubs Resources and Information.
Do not know about the prices though but cannot be too expensive if it is on the campus.

Also it all depends how big you want to make it and choose the venue accordingly.

There don’t seem to be many takers so far, and geographically scattered at that.
If advertising more widely, it might be helpful to indicate the topics & level of discussion to be expected so that newbies like I am don’t fall at the first fence.
I’m near Oxford, so B’ham, Bristol are fine for me.

Bristol is good for me.
I live in Wales but work in Bristol, so at least I’d know where I was going.
Have we got a date yet?

Why not compile a list of where everyone is and come up with a location that would pull in the most people.
or
Regional Venues.

Is this a no-go?

If I were to guess … I’d have to say YES, it’s off … at least for the time being :frowning:

I’m guessing just because of a lack of organisation and finances?

Let’s start at the beginning then.
What exactly are we wanting to achieve with this event?
Who do we want to attend?
How will it be advertised?
How will it be presented?

More importantly… WHERE’S THE BEER & WOMEN?

You had your beer & women about a week ago ;D :stuck_out_tongue:

I didn’t have women. Or sexytime. :frowning:

Just a bad head the next day

Is that event still on then if so how about York ? its has a mainline station, …and yes I’m Interested but end of the month would be best

I think this needs to be rebooted for 2013.

Anyone agree?

Sure … just needs numbers to make it worthwhile and consensus on a location …

After having been to similar UG type events in the past I think it needs an overnight option with cheap accommodation with stuff over two days … gotta make it worthwhile for people travelling a long way …

I’m still in.

I agree, it needs to be in a central location.

Reading or somewhere near there? It has quite good travel links.

There again, looking back through the comments, Bristol would be equally good.

Never the less, lets get this ball rolling

Perhaps it would be helpful, nearer the agreed time, to indicate the proposed topics for discussion and the expected level.
This might help newbies in deciding whether or not to attend. It’s very useful to venture into something a bit deeper than one’s present ability, but too deep can be very off-putting.

Hello again all,

So it is definitely now 2013, and with my daughter having a midday nap I thought I would have a look around the ol’ forum and see what needed my input (its everything right?)

So what do people think? is there still interest?
