OK, it’s not on your hard drive (that’s just the screenshot you took) … is there anything on the USB stick that can be removed ?
Although it looks like there should be enough room on there anyway
Found some in the wastebasket- see attachment.
There is nothing on the data stick but if there was enough room why did the low disc space box come up? Strange…
Is there another PC in the house you could download that file onto, then put it on the USB stick ?
No, only the XP which i cannot get to connect to internet. Is all well with my netbook Mark? We can just use my portable HD yes? It has tons of room on it.
OK, let’s try this another way.
In Firefox go to
Edit>Preferences
When the preferences dialog window opens, click the “General” icon …
Put a tick (dot) in
Always ask me where to save files
and close the window.
Now normal (left) click this link
http://peppermintos.info/archive/Peppermint-3-20120722-i386.iso
When asked, tick
Save File
and click the OK button
In the window that opens, on the left click
New Volume
then click the “Save” button.
Ok done all that. I didn’t realise it was in Firefox to choose where to save files to- that’s better than it going in download folder. Right as this takes a few mins I think it is shower, PJs and coffee time …I will be back in 10 mins!
Ok, I’m going for a nicotine break then
Can you answer me a question …
Are you sure the XP PC has a wireless adapter, or is connected to the router with an ethernet cable ?
Yeah been having a few of those myself… 8)
I wasn’t given an ethernet cable, but know my late bro and his partner have wi fi in their home as her two teenagers have laptops in their bedrooms. He was using it only early this year.
Download to data stick complete! Shall I load it onto the XP laptop now?
Yes, copy it off the USB stick onto the XP desktop (or somewhere you can find it)
Ok, I wonder how long XP will take to do that- we’ll see!
Tutorial for burning an ISO image to CD/DVD with ImgBurn here:
http://neosmart.net/wiki/display/G/Burning+ISO+Images+with+ImgBurn
Hint - On the fourth picture, where it says
Write Speed: AUTO (MAX)
Change it to
Write Speed: X4
before clicking the button to burn the disk.
Ok well it looks like it’s done it- unusual for XP to be that quick. I will do what you wrote above now. Oh by the way, regarding the Matroska files- some of the original Star Treks are matroskas and play fine but the Enterprise ones which are all Matroskas are funny- must be errors on them and not VLC or my netbook.
None of those things came up except burn CD, which is burning now
Has the XP box got an arial stuck out of the back … or anything plugged into a USB slot that might be a USB wireless adapter ?
None of those things came up except burn CD, which is burning now
it would DEFINITELY have been an option somewhere
So you didn’t change the burn speed to X4 ?
