PDFS

Hey guys how do I turn an odt into a pdf? Thanks.

Hi Melissa

You should be able to “Export” any .odt file as a PDF in Libre Office…click File-Export as PDF or use the PDF icon on the top taskbar

Good luck

Graeme

As Emegra says, you can export it in LibreOffice.

but ANY application that can “print” can also create a pdf … just select -

Print > Print to file

tick Output format=PDF

and click the “Print” button.

You’ll then find it in your home folder.

Thanks guys- I found a free online pdf converter in the end- exporting didn’t work.

There is a PDF icon on Libre office which has been there since … “forever” … it’s a single click followed by file → save as … I’ve never know it not work … and it’s there in the writer, spreadsheet and presentation apps …

Ok cheers- I’ll look later!

That doesn’t work.

I tried that as first port of call- no pdf option there.

The pdf online converter is the best.

In LibreOffice
Go to FileExport as PDF

Melissa … no it isn’t, an online converter will only be any good if you can get online … and you are giving your document to someone else.
(online converters should be a last resort)

How hard can it be to (in ANY application that can print) to select

File > Print

Click on Print to File

Name: Whatever-you-want.pdf

Output format: tick the PDF box

then click the Print button

You’ll then find the PDF in your home folder.

It’s EXACTLY like printing the document … but instead of being sent to your printer, a PDF file is created instead.

But there’s something wrong if you can’t export to PDF from within LibreOffice … it certainly works on my system.

Here’s a small video demonstrating how to save a .odt file as a PDF in LibreOffice

click on the bottom right of the screen image to go full screen

The picture is a bit blurry full screen but still perfectly watchable

Here’s another wee video demo as the last one may have been a bit confusing, it concentrates only on the simplest method in LibreOffice and the picture quality is a bit better I think especially full screen

Graeme

Nope it doesn’t work!

OK, try this:-

run:

sudo apt-get install cups-pdf

Now print from LibreOffice, but instead of selecting “Print to file” as the printer … select “PDF” as the printer.

You should then find the PDF file in a folder called PDF in your home folder.

See my screen grab- if there is no save button then one cannot save!!! It doesn’t work on this stupid laptop. I might try it on the Dell netbook and see what happens there- but this laptop I am sure is slowly dying- things are just going bad to worse on it. I am using it more because of the big screen but if it gets any worse I might give it to the PC man for parts!!
And yes the page was scrolled right up the top so save button is not hidden.

Would do if that option would come up- it then goes to the save page with no button! Doesn’t matter I am happy with online ones- you delete it after anyway and I don’t use pdf much- was for an online course about music- nothing to hide! In fact if people read it I’d be pleased!

Click the little triangle next to the words “File Type:” (in your screenshot) … that should shorten that dialog box, and display the “Save” button.

It doesn’t tried that days ago! Let’s forget this one Mark- doesn’t work, but thanks for helping. I don’t use pdfs much anyway and got an online one.

One last thing … drag the very top egde of that dialog down to shrink the window, then drag the whole window upwards so you can see the save button.

I’m on a smaller screen than you, and I can make it fit

Or

what happens if you hit the maximise button on that dialog ?
