Slow download

I'm beginning to think this may be better off with PM3 ???

Yeah I was kinda thinking that myself (honestly I was  ) I installed P3 on her Lenovo laptop and she loves it, she can’t believe how fast it is

EDIT
I hope you don’t fall out with me for saying this but to be honest I prefer P3 to P4 but that’s just a personal opinion

We could spend forever tracking it down .. or just swap to PM3, and if you want, make PM3 act/look like PM4 ?

I like the sound of that

Well 70% of turning PM3 into PM4 is already typed up:
http://linuxforums.org.uk/index.php?topic=10436.msg79209#msg79209

the rest is basically a few themes, etc

Ok so will i just do it ?

Before you go and make Mark all :frowning: why not try connecting to your rooter via Ethernet (just to rule out the wireless).

Hi SeZo

Thanks for your input

Sorry Peppermint 3 is already installing, I am a bit impulsive I know but i just want to see the PC running properly whatever OS it’s running

Graeme

I reckon PM4 → PM3, I can hold back the tears … it’s not like he’s installing Windows ME or anything

Well all I am saying is that it might not be the OS at fault.

Well I’m not exactly committed yet because P3 will not show any available networks although the network card is listed under lspct, I plugged in the USB adaptor i have and that connects ???

could we simply have a faulty network card ??

What speeds do you get with the USB adaptor?

It must be a kernel regression if wireless works on all distros with the 3.2 kernel series … rt2800pci is part of the kernel.

The only other thing is possibly they’ve updates the firmware for that card, and screwed it up.

What’s the speed like with the USB card in PM3 ?

What speeds do you get with the USB adaptor?

I couldn’t get a speed reading with the USB adaptor because when it was connected alongside the PCI card the network brokedown completely like they were conflicting

could we simply have a faulty network card ??

Must have been more than that, as it was slow even with the USB adapter in PM4, wasn’t it ?

Try physically pulling the PCI card.

[EDIT]

If you don’t want to physically pull it, send the output from:

sudo lshw -C network

and

lsusb

the speed with usb seems really slow so I’m gonna pull the pci card and try again

Sommat odd going on here … did you say it was fine from the PM3 LiveCD, but now you’ve installed it, it’s slow again ?

Sommat odd going on here .. did you say it was fine from the PM3 LiveCD, but now you've installed it, it's slow again ?

Yes that’s what I’m saying but it gets even stranger than that

I pulled the PCI card and now I can’t get any available networks with just a USB adaptor in either PM3 Live or PM4 Installed and that’s trying it with 2 different USB adaptors

Whats the output from:

sudo lshw -C network

and

lsusb

and

rfkill list

before I give you these outputs It seems I have more than one issue here because the PC wont recognise any USB device plugged into the main USB ports at the rear of the machine, the USB adaptors are recognised when I plug them into a USB hub but wont connect (probably lack of power)

So untill I can get a stable USB connection from this machine I’m wasting your time

I can only appologise but these ports were working earlier

You’re wasting nobodies time.

A wireless card shouldn’t need a powered hub

Are you sure you haven’t somehow disabled the USB ports in the BIOS ?
