Slow download

I’ll have your command requests soon I’m having a nightmare the network keeps dropping out the desktop is freezing and now it wont recognise the flash drive I’m using to transfer the data, rebooting now won’t be long :slight_smile:

OK, run:

sudo gedit /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules

now remove everything I’ve highlighted RED … and change what I’ve highlighted BLUE

PCI device 0x10ec:/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:09.0 (8139too)

SUBSYSTEM==“net”, ACTION==“add”, DRIVERS==“?", ATTR{address}==“00:e0:4c:39:22:53”, ATTR{dev_id}==“0x0”, ATTR{type}==“1”, KERNEL=="eth”, NAME=“eth0”

USB device 0x050d:0x705c (usb)

SUBSYSTEM==“net”, ACTION==“add”, DRIVERS==“?", ATTR{address}==“00:11:50:b2:ca:89”, ATTR{dev_id}==“0x0”, ATTR{type}==“1”, KERNEL=="wlan”, NAME=“wlan0”

PCI device 0x1814:/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:0a.0 (rt2800pci)

SUBSYSTEM==“net”, ACTION==“add”, DRIVERS==“?", ATTR{address}==“c8:3a:35:c0:6d:57”, ATTR{dev_id}==“0x0”, ATTR{type}==“1”, KERNEL=="wlan”, NAME=“wlan1”

USB device 0x148f:0x5370 (usb)

SUBSYSTEM==“net”, ACTION==“add”, DRIVERS==“?", ATTR{address}==“c8:3a:35:ca:0e:df”, ATTR{dev_id}==“0x0”, ATTR{type}==“1”, KERNEL=="wlan”, NAME=“wlan2”

So it now reads:-

PCI device 0x10ec:/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:09.0 (8139too)

SUBSYSTEM==“net”, ACTION==“add”, DRIVERS==“?", ATTR{address}==“00:e0:4c:39:22:53”, ATTR{dev_id}==“0x0”, ATTR{type}==“1”, KERNEL=="eth”, NAME=“eth0”

PCI device 0x168c:/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:0f.0 (ath9k)

SAVE the file, and reboot.

Then send the output from

iwconfig

pat@Linux4 ~ $ lspci -vnn | grep -i net

See above.

OK, this might be obvious, but have you tried to move the PC to the location of the PC with good connection?

Hi SeZo

OK, this might be obvious, but have you tried to move the PC to the location of the PC with good connection?

No we haven’t tried that I’m hoping that will be a last resort but but I agree sometimes the obvious turns out to be the answer :slight_smile:

OK it’s now connecting to the internet

pat@Linux4 ~ $ iwconfig

lo        no wireless extensions.

And the speed ?

And the speed ?

Dare I say it worse than ever

Download = 0.388 mb/s

Upload = 1.63 mb/s

OK, I think SeZo is right … we need to at least test this PC somewhere else in the house … preferably where you KNOW works

Ok I’ll hook it up to where Linux3 is and try it there

Watch this space :slight_smile:

Just leve enough gap for air flow :wink:

Ouch … Hahahaha :slight_smile:

Ok I hooked it up to where linux3 is situated at the other side of the room if anything it’s worse I done 1 speed check then tried another and it wont connect to the site but I can safely say it’s no better

I think I’m just being a PITA with this now, maybe I’m expecting too much from old crap hardware

What do you think ?

This could be a long shot, but worth to try. Switch off all other equipment connecting to your Super Hub Wirelessly.
Try it with just the problem PC. See if you get any better results.

There’s only 1 other device connected wirelessly which is this PC (Linux3) everything else is connected by ethernet ie 3 xboxes and a NAS box running freenas

But I’ll give it a shot :slight_smile:

I’m also beginning to think this is another hardware issue, and not wireless at all

Possibly screwy interrupts ?

Another long shot … Is there a BIOS option to reset the “DMI pool data” or similar

And is the BIOS set to “Plug and Play OS” ?

I’ve been through all the bios menus and I see nothing about plug/play or DMI

Sorry :frowning:

One last thing … try:

sudo modprobe -r ath9k

then

sudo modprobe ath9k nohwcrypt=1

any improvement ?

Sorry Mark no improvement it’s back not connecting to the internet, I think the best thing we can do for this useless pile of junk is give it a decent burial preferably from a great height

waddayathink ? :slight_smile:
